My opinion is based on 1 Cor 7:5 which talks about not abstaining from sex in a marriage unless upon mutual consent, so both parties can pray. A sexless marriage, in my opinion, is comparable to a prayer-less relationship with God. In Exodus 25:8 God is laying out the foundation for the building of the Tabernacle and He says to Moses, "And they will make a Sanctuary for Me, and I shall dwell in their midst." If you study this verse more intensely, a better translation would be "And I will dwell within them." I realize that its slightly awkward to compare God indwelling us, with sex but I believe that sex is the perfect picture of how closely God wants to know us. God wanted His people to build Him a home, not a house. A marriage relationship without intimacy is comparable to doing things for God but not KNOWING Him. I think a sexless marriage does the same thing it does for the couple - it breaks His heart because the root of a sexless marriage is either UNFORGIVENESS (bitterness) or LAZINESS and both are not looked kindly upon throughout scripture. A sexless marriage (unless agreed upon by consent for a short while to pray) is a lifeless one, a loveless one, and needs HELP!

I would ask this question to the couple.
1) When was the last time you prayed alone? I mean, really prayed?
2) When was the last time you prayed together?
3) Have you talked about the situation and asked the person not interested in sex for forgiveness?

Even the littlest unforgiveness can grow into a large tree of bitterness. My husband and I have initiated a weekly TGIFF (Thank God Its Forgiveness Friday). We sit down with each other before dinner and look at each other in the eyes and ask if there's anything we have done to hurt the other person. And we take turns listening, repenting, and forgiving. No offense is too small.

Your question is "Is it wrong in God's eyes to have a sexless marriage." I think you already know the answer but I hope that you are NOT actually asking "Is a sexless marriage a valid reason for divorce?" I pray that you/the person you're asking this for is looking for a way to run close to their spouse, rather than looking for permission to run away. A sexless marriage needs help and is usually directly parallel to the intimacy the marriage knows with God. Many blessings on your journey!
