What is God's will in the context of Matthew 7:21-23?
Matthew 7:21 - 23
ESV - 21 Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?

The bible answers this for us. John 6:40 NASBS For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day. John 6:40 KJV" And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. As you can see KJV and NASB are nearly the same. The words seeth or beholds to me means to recognize the truth of who Jesus is. John 1.The only begotten son of God that became flesh lived among us. This is the starting of faith. ITo believe in Jesus is the second part. I understand believing to be not only faith that Jesus is God and will do the things he said would; die for our sins and come back to get the ones that do the will of his Father, but also doing the things Jesus said to do; love God, love your neighbor, preach the gospel, help the poor the widows and orphans, forgive your trespassers etc. Many people call these works and try to make them unnecessary because you can't work your way to eternal life.but I see these works as a slave working in the field with his master with no reward, just what is required for a slave to do as in Luke 17:10. So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’” I don't see any reward except you become a friend of Jesus and no longer a slave as in John 15:15. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
