Is it wrong to turn down someone who asks for something if it's for someone else?

Example: I bought two boxes of pizzas for my family, there more than 10 of us in the house. I already told myself that I was not going to share with anyone. When I got my pizza, some people begged for a slice. I turned some down, especially people I don't know. But I still gave away too many slices. when I got home it wasn't enough for all of us. I know that the Bible talks about being generous. But it also says to care for your family members. Was I wrong? Tell me if there is a better way to handle situations like this.

The short answer in my humble opinion is a simple NO, your number one duty is to protect and provide for those whose welfare depends on you, they are first!

And then maybe as directed by the Holy spirit to those outside of this circle, as you maybe able to do, without breaking your first responsibility.

In the case of your pizza, counting everyone there waiting I would add or plan on two slices for myself, encountering a hungry person in route.
I may have given one of my planned slices to them or both maybe, but never those of others waiting for my return.

In this life there are many who covet the things of others with a kind heart, do not be deceived for they mean to drain you of your resources and joy.

In the parable of the ten virgins there were five wise virgins who were prepared with what they needed "good to go" and five not so wise unprepared virgins.
The not so wise wanted to borrow from the wise, and were directed to go and get what they needed, not because the wise were selfish, but because they couldn't supply the limitless foolishness of others without coming up short themselves.
