What happened to Aaron's rod? Was it ever found?

Scripture tells us that one of the items placed in the Ark of the Covenant, by GOD'S command, was Aaron's rod. To date the Ark has not been found, though legend has it in Etheopia [ given by Solomon to the Queen of Sheba as a sign of Covenant and for it's protection? ] Or buried in Catacombs under the Temple site.
