I believe that while living with Naomi, even after the death of her husband, both Oprah and Ruth had the opportunity to experience firsthand the LORD God of Israel. This was in stark contrast to the god of Moab who demanded children be sacrificed for favor. However, even though a person is exposed to the Truth, this does not mean it has affected their heart.

At first, Oprah was willing to go with Naomi, but when she saw the way hard, the choices difficult, the future bleak, she caved under the pressure and returned to the false god of Moab. How like some people who have a taste of Jesus Christ, but pressure from friends, family, co-workers, and the inner enemy, they reject Him and return to the gods of this world, the flesh and the devil.

Yet Ruth, having seen with her eyes, tasted the goodness of the one true God, could not return with Oprah. She chose instead to face all uncertainty and whatever misfortune awaited her in the land of Israel even as a hated Moabites.

I don't know if you can imagine picking up all you have, leaving all your family, traveling to another country where you know they immediately will hate you just because of where you were born. This was the position Ruth was in. Yet, she trusted in the God of Naomi to see her through it all!

What a beautiful teaching example for us all, to leave all this world to follow Christ!

Be Blessed
Lena
