Cain was Eve's firstborn, and Abel was her second (Gen. 4:1,2). Sometime after this, Seth was born (Gen. 5:3), as well as other sons and daughters (Gen. 5:4). Although it tells us how old Adam was when Seth was born, it does not tell us that he was their third child. Some of the others could have been born before him, and some could have been born after him. Seth is specifically mentioned since he and his descendants are important to the Biblical record.
