God made Adam and Eve perfect, just as He intended all of humanity to be. That is, we are both physical and spiritual beings. This will always be the case.

Revelation 21:1-3 - Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them."

In the end, the earth will be redeemed and restored just as our physical bodies will be. Remember, the earth is under the curse just as we are. Christ will set all things right. Heaven will come down and literally reside on earth. Earth will be where we spend eternity, it will be Heaven.

Oddly enough, I could find only one scripture that many people use to state that they know unequivocally that they're going to heaven: 1 Thess. 4:17-"Afterward we the living who are surviving will, together with them, be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we will always be with the Lord."

There is nothing in the Hebrew scriptures to indicate that when we die we go to heaven, and the scripture where Jesus said "I go to prepare a place for you..." (John 14:2,3) was spoken in private to a small group of people and not to a multitude.

There is actually more scriptural support for everlasting life here on earth than there is for mankind going to heaven (Psa. 37:11, 29; Matt. 5:5, 6:10; Rev. 21:3-5). The scriptures in Matthew and Revelation are of utmost importance as they both originate with Christ himself. That we were designed to live forever on earth can be seen in the universal belief of all humans about not wanting to die.

After all, if we died and go to heaven, wouldn't that be more preferable to living on the earth in its' current state of disrepair and violence? Yet not one Christian wants to die. Not one. Even they don't understand it.

It might be helpful to think of it this way: Heaven belongs to God, and it is God's "party" all the way around, and he has certain requirements for those attending. It would be presumptuous of me to state with boldness that I've been invited to the party when my lifestyle falls incredibly short of the requirements, no matter how hard I try, due to inherited sin.

Would it not be best to live our lives to the best NOW and not wait for a heavenly gift? After all, does not a gift mean all that much more when we least expect it?

God is perfect and doesn't change. And there are more scriptures in the Hebrew text to support everlasting life on earth than everyone on earth going to heaven.

Please bear in mind, though, that whoever IS chosen to go to heaven would know without a shadow of a doubt. And, speaking personally, I have not received that invitation.

Philippians 1:21-24 ("For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far, but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.")
