Hi Steve
I am not sure man lived on vegetation. Abel kept flocks (Genesis 4:3) and offered fat portions of the first born of his flocks to the Lord. He would not have kept flocks if he did not intend to eat them or throw away the meat after the Lord accepted his sacrifice!
