God primarily reveals his will through Bible which is his word. It is important to be aquainted with God's instructions concerning marriage. If a particular person who comes across you fits in God's criteria for marriage then you should do the following before commiting to that person. 1. Ask God to guide you whether that person is a suitable spouse. 2. Know more about the other person's spuritual commitment, theolgical/denominational stands if any etc. 3. Share these facts with a mature Christian couple or a godly pastor. Trust God to guide you. One more important thing God guides only his children who are willing to obey and are in proper fellowship with Him. May God guide you.

I think that God can also guide us (not just in the search for a spouse, but in life in general) through the use of circumstances that may seem to be random or even unpleasant events at the time, but which (if we are open to His guidance and prompting, and also willing to wait on His perfect timing) are actually leading us in the direction that He wants us to go, and to the person whom He intends for us.

The job from which I am now retired required me to relocate between a worldwide variety of locations on an average of once every 3-1/2 years. Looking back over the last forty years (to the time when I was still in college), I can clearly and unmistakably identify at least two specific events, purposes, or sets of interconnected circumstances associated with each location that would not have occurred if I had not been in each particular place at each particular time, and that worked to my immediate or long-term professional or personal benefit (including being married to my wife).

In retrospect, even romantic disappointments (some of them severe) that I went through gave me experience and insights without which my marriage to my wife might not have lasted the thirty years (and counting) that it has -- not through any fault of my wife's, but because, without those adverse events, I would not have had the necessary maturity and perspective (with regard to discerning what was truly important from what was not) to enable me to work through some of the difficult times that arise during any marriage (ours being no exception).
