When you are a Christian is it alright for your child to wear a shirt that has a skull head on it?

Nothing means nothing in today's world. Everything has a meaning - sometimes an obvious one, at other times not so obvious.

Why would the designer put a skull on a shirt? It's hardly attractive.

Yet we know of the secret societies and the many hideous messages that they dish out on society, especially our youth who are malleable and easily influenced.

We also know of one such illuminati secret society - the Skull and Bones.

Yet we don't HAVE to know about the secret societies to know what is decent and proper dressing. As Christ's ambassadors, would we expect Him to wear such regalia? Certainly not.

Neither should we or our children.

Bless.

If you are a Christian, you are free in Christ to wear (or allow your child to wear) whatever you wish. However, as a Christian, our lives are no longer our own, but are hidden in Christ and subject to the will of God. Colossians chapters 2 & 3 will shed some light on this.

In particular Colossians 3:1-3,5,10,17 speak to how are lives should reflect the image and will of Christ. As Christians, we must carefully consider the message we send in all things. A skull is a representation of death, poison and decay. Is this the life message a Christian wants to send? What is your purpose in allowing your child to wear the skull shirt? I understand it is a fad now, and indeed have had trouble myself finding accessories and clothing that does not have skulls on them. But it can be done with some effort.

Explaining to your child what skulls represent and how, as Christians we want to share Jesus as the life and truth and way of our life. Wearing a skull does not send the message that we have a better way than the culture of death our society has embraced. I would encourage you to prayerfully consider if in your circle of influence a skull shirt is a harmless fad or if it somehow implicates an acceptance of the world's perspective on what is worthy of praise. Seeking Jesus' opinion in the Word will be your best guide.

Love in Christ,
Susan
