What is the most important piece of the Armor of God?

If one had to learn each of the pieces of armor in a specific order, which would be the best one to start with?

Ephesians 6:10 - 20

ESV - 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

Great question in my humble opinion the helmet (oneness) of salvation which protects the mind from attacks of the evil one and then the sword of the Spirit.
If you understand the high price that was paid for you by our Lord on the cross with His precious blood while we were still His enemies and sinners!

Knowing who you are in the Lord and then having His powerful sword at hand, now makes you a most formidable warrior, wits + Faith + weapon = VICTORY
 1Samuel 17:48

Most battles are won or lost in the mind as they begin there, if the enemy can cause you to doubt that you'll be victorious, chances are you won't..
Worse still would be fear that becomes crippling to you and those with you to the point of not advancing and engaging the task given into your hand.
1Samuel 17:24

The evil one can not defeat you on the field of battle, where the full armor is on and you are secure in it. His main heavy weapon is deception, finding the weak spot to deceive you into speaking the seeds of your own defeat or quitting.
1Samuel 17:38-39

The most dangerous man is, the one with nothing to lose.......and all to gain
1Cor 16:13

the Lord's freedom to stand..........warrior on

Eph.6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.~"Above all" would imply that the shield of faith is the most important and a very good starting point, for without knowing or having faith that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself as a Perfect Living sacrifice so the shedding of His Blood and the belief or "faith" of said act is the only way we can be saved and go to heaven. Also as the above scripture explains holding on o this fact will quench any attack the enemy has to offer. You will need to-(6:11 Put on the whole armor of God)because we-(6:12we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;)But after having all six of God's Armor your not finished or ready, you still need to be(6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 6:20: that * therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.)

After going over his few scripture's i feel i must add a few more.~
(2 Tim2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.)And one more group of passage's i'd like to share with you,

dig in God's Word for it's to be treasured more than Gold or wealth, it holds the very Words of Life. God Bless you my Brother in Jesus's Precious Name!

(2 Pet.3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

The most important armor to me is the sword of the spirit(The word of God) which happens to be the defensive armor. If your have the Helmet of salvation, shield of faith, breast plate of righteousness, belt of truth, proper shoes,(all of which Jesus had but the enemy still came with his temptations Mt 4:1-11) and you do not know the right scripture or the word of God to use for the battle, you will be defeated. Therefore studying to show yourself approved 2 Tim 2:15 will help you pull out the sword you have stored in your heart arsenal when the battle rages and there- in will be your victory

What comes to my mind is the shield of faith.
"BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved" "By FAITH we are saved"
A shield also protects our heart.
"Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it spring the issues of life" Proverbs 4:31 and many more.

Not a bad question, Noel! In my opinion, I would start with the last piece of armor to learn, the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.

The Greek term translated sword (μάχαιρα, macaira) refers to the Roman gladius, a short sword about 2 ft (60 cm) long, used for close hand-to-hand combat. This is the only clearly offensive weapon in the list of armor mentioned by the author (he does not, for example, mention the lance [Latin pilum]). -bible.org
We need the Bible for close, intimate conversations, e.g. in soul-winning.

Also, we need the Bible in our battle against sin. Jesus did in His battle against sin (Mt 4; Lk 4). Hear William Cowper:

I hate the thought that wrongs the Lord;
Oh! I would drive it from my breast,
With Thy own sharp two-edged sword,
Far as the east is from the west.
