The gift is free. Once accepted, you have to bear the cost of maintaining it.
Sportpersons are presented luxrious cars by fans. When they take it to their home countries, they asked to pay import duty.
Free gift and but later cost is not a contradiction. The offer of salvation is a free gift to a believer. I think the cost is relevant for disciples, who want to serve.
