1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

I think verses 15 & 17 answers your question, as it clearly states “we who are alive” will meet with Lord in the air.

The answer is no. 

Consideration of other scriptures in addition to one quoted by Don Mesquit lead us to this conclusion.

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? Or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal (Matthew 25:31-46 KJV.)

Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world (John 11:23 - 11:27 KJV).

Clearly, then, many will still be alive when Jesus returns to end the world and take over rulership of the world as head of the Government of God called the Kingdom of God, in line with Daniel 2:44; 7:13-14; Isaiah 9:6-7; Revelation 11:15.

The end of the world will mean destruction for the wicked and ungodly, and those who have not known God and obeyed the good news about Jesus Christ; see 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9; Proverbs 2:21-22; Psalms 37:9-11.

On the other hand, the end of the world will mean salvation for those who know God and have obeyed the good news about Jesus. 

In summary, the final judgement will come even as people will be alive on earth and busy with the normal things of life..eating, drinking, marrying, building, working etc, just as Jesus said when comparing his coming with what happened in Noah's day. See Matthew 24:36-39. 

Sadly, as Jesus warns above, many will be too busy to take note of happenings around them particularly the fulfillment of Bible prophecies including the global preaching of the good news of God's kingdom. 
These will be destroyed by sending them into the symbolic lake of fire and sulphur, while those adjudged righteous will go on living right into the new world.

So, we should take note.
