What does "reign in life" in Romans 5:17 mean if "reign" is defined in the dictionary as "to exercise power and control over" something?

Romans 5:17

NKJV - 17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

In addition to the eternal life that faith in Christ has gained for believers after their earthly lives end, those believers can live their earthly lives knowing that they have gained that triumph through their faith, as well as having thus been enabled to exert the daily victory or control over sin, and to display the God-pleasing righteous conduct, that that same faith has made possible.
