Can someone experience the connection with God that one gets in the newborn experience again. It lasted for about 6 months for me but faded away and never returned.

Yes, it is always possible to renew our fellowship with the Lord if we have grown cold. 'You will seek me and you will find me if you seek me with all your heart'.Jeremiah 29:13. We need to stay in daily fellowship with the Lord, always spending time listening for His voice, or we will drift away. Sometimes we need to humble ourselves and fast about this.

It may be lack...lack of encouragement, fellowship, discipleship, camaraderie. A single ember burns out quicker than a born fire.
