The passage in question is talking about the millennial reign of Christ on earth when for 1000 years Christ will literally reign in Jerusalem with all His saints while satan would be bound (Rev.20:2-3). Christ will reign on earth as the following scriptures shows- Isa.9:6-7;Micah 4:1-8; Dan. 2:44; Zechariah 14:6-9; Ps.96:11-13. 
 This millennial reign will terminate with the release of satan from the bottomless pit for a brief time to tempt those that have enjoyed the reign of Christ and His saints peradventure they will yield to his antics and disobey God.

Many times I have heard this passage quoted as the life we would hope to live on earth in some mystical millennium. However after having studied the passage and keeping it in it's messianic context, to my surprise I found that the time frame had nothing to do with a literal life that will be lived in a future millennium.

My reasons are, firstly, In Isaiah11: 10 it says "in that day", and this puts us in the picture as to when this would be happening.
Isa 11:10。。。 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. 
It’s quite clear that this is talking about the time when the Apostle Paul explained his calling to the Gentiles. 
Rom 15:12, And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. 

This event is referring to the Ministry of God to the Gentiles and Paul refers directly to it as such.
This description of the beasts of prey and dangerous animals is not a time when these literal animals are turned into vegetarians but I believe it is symbolic of the nature of the human heart and the affect that the gospel has on people when they are converted. Note in Isa 11:9 “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my Holy Mountain” and that mountain is the Lords House the Church.

If you take the apostle Paul for an example, before his conversion he was a ravenous lion that was making havoc of the Church. After Stephen died with his approval he was converted and so the lion was now living peacefully with the lambs. I see it as a figurative language and not a literal future Millennium. This in my opinion is the effect of the gospel transforming human hearts.

Then finally after these times would be the re-gathering of Israel and the silencing of the Egyptians as in the six day war they were silenced by the miracle of God’s protection of Israel as was well documented in the six day war.

Great question, Anthony Clinton! Yes, the scriptures in Isaiah 11:6-9 talk about life in some future millennium. It's yet future. Conditions will be such that, as indicated in Isaiah 11:6-9, "all enmity among men, among animals, rapacious or otherwise [i.e. the wolf and the lamb], and [for that matter] between men and animals will disappear. Such will characterize the future millennial kingdom in which the Prince of Peace will reign (Isaiah 9:6)."

So you have to combine Isaiah 11:6 with Isaiah 9:6.“ Isa. 9:6 says, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Check out The MacArthur Study Bible, Revised and Updated Edition, from your library.

There will be "harmony in the whole creation (Romans 8:19-22)."
