No one can trust anyone he does not know personally. Just knowing about Jesus may not be enough to cast off doubt and build trust. It takes more than just casual acquaintance to completely remove the cause of our doubt on someone, especially one whom we do not see, hear or experience. And there's no other way to know Jesus except from the Word of God. He said, if you seek me, you will find me - if you seek me with all of your heart. Praise God!
