For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required:and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more

This is the point illustrated by the parable of Lk. 12:47- 48

An ignorant man will receive less punishment, like a man who committed some petty crime would be beaten by Jews with as few as four to six stripes. This is not putting a premium on ignorance. In Christian lands where truth abounds in gospel light, ignorance is inexcusable (Rom. 1:13; 1Cor. 14:38).
