My opinion is that God does not have favourites....as such. But there are people whose response to God is such that God also responds to them. For example, among the disciples there were three (Peter, James and John) who were closer to Christ than others, and even of these three, there was one (John) who was called the Beloved. But this was not because Christ loved them more than others, but that they loved Christ more than others.
