Very good question indeed. I have a very crystal and simple answer for you. ► Rev. Chapter 13 depicts two different beasts. They will be called as the 'Anti-Christ' and the 'False prophet' ► The Anti-Christ is depicted as the first beast coming out of sea (Rev. 13: 1-10) ► The False prophet is depicted as the second beast coming out of earth. (Rev. 13:11-18) ► These two beasts are symbolic of the two witnesses - Elijah and Enoch I will provide sixteen facts about the SECOND beast (False Prophet) of Rev. 13: 1. He will be a man. The Greek:allos (G243), means another of the same kind. The first beast is a man (Rev. 13:18), so the second one must also be a man (Rev. 13:11; 16:13; 19:20; 20:10). Personal pronouns are used of them, indicating they are persons. 2. He will come out of the earth (Rev. 13:11), which is the same as coming out of the sea (cp. Dan. 7:3 with Dan. 7:17). There is no intimation that he will be from the underworld of departed spirits, or that he will be a man resurrected from the dead. Both beasts symbolize two natural men who will be born in these last days, will fulfill prophecy and die at Armageddon (Rev. 19:20; Dan. 7:11; Isa. 11:4; 2Th. 2:8). 3. He will come after the first beast and will be his prophet (Rev. 13:13; 19:20; 20:10). 4. He will come with a lamb- like appearance to deceive, but will speak like the dragon (Rev. 13:11). 5. He will exercise all the power of the first beast or Antichrist before him (Rev. 13:2, 12; 19:20; 2Th. 2:8- 12). 6. He will cause people on earth to worship the first beast (Rev. 13:12; 17:8- 11, notes). 7. He will do great miracles, even to calling fire from heaven before people, counterfeiting God and His works (Rev. 13:13; 19:20; cp. Num. 11:1- 3 26:10). 8. He will deceive people by the miracles he will do in the sight of the first beast (Rev. 13:14; 19:20). 9. He will cause people to make an image of the first beast to be worshiped (Rev. 13:14; 14:9- 11 15:2; 16:2; 20:4- 6). 10. He will have power to give life to the image causing it to speak and do personal acts (Rev. 13:15; cp. Ex. 7:10- 12). 11. He will cause the image to demand the death penalty for all who will not worship the Antichrist (Rev. 13:15; 7:9- 17 15:2; 20:4- 6). 12. He will cause people in the kingdom of Antichrist to take a mark, or the name of the Antichrist, or the number of his name in the right hand or in the forehead (Rev. 13:16; 14:9- 11 15:2; 16:2; 20:4- 6). 13. He will make a law that no man might buy or sell if he does not take one of the three brands (Rev. 13:17). 14. He will be equal to the first beast in sending demon spirits, working through ambassadors, to gather the nations to Armageddon (Rev. 16:13- 16 19:19- 21). 15. He will be taken with the Antichrist at Armageddon and be cast alive into the lake of fire (Rev. 19:20). 16. He will still be in the lake of fire in conscious torment one thousand years later (Rev. 20:10).
I believe that the false prophet will probably be the leader of an apostate religious organization which will be officially recognized by the Antichrist and given special endorsement in return for its support. This is likely to be the official religious system that will rule the earth with a profound impact even as the true church is persecuted. It will most likely endorse the Antichrist leader as the legitimate global leader who will herald global peace and prosperity. This suggests that it will have a global presence and the false prophet will probably be it's official spokesperson who will openly support the Antichrist. This religious organization may already be in existence. Alternatively, it may emerge and rapidly grow from among false church organizations that already exist. The third possibility is that the false prophet may break away from an existing religious organization or system and gain unrivaled fame at the same time that the Antichrist is revealed. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 reveals that the falling away will precede the revelation of the Antichrist. This suggests that by the time the Antichrist emerges, the religious system of the false prophet may have gained global prominence. Some have speculated that the Roman Catholic Church which is one of the major religious organizations with a global presence may produce the false prophet. However, this is a difficult conclusion to draw from the Bible. Could the false prophet and his religious system collectively refer to all false or apostate churches in their entirety who will serve and pledge allegiance to the Antichrist and his one world government system?
Let me share with you the first beast versus the second: John is shown the first beast in revelation as having seven heads, and each head had a king. John was told five had already came and gone. The sixth one was in place at the time John was given the revelation. That would be the Roman Empire. He was told one would follow the sixth making up all seven kings. But John was told after the seventh one appeared the first beast would come to an end. Now all seven of these kings came up from the sea. The sea is the pool of people to be born. But when all seven kings have ruled, another king would come. He would be the eighth but will be of the seven. This eighth king comes up from the pit and will have an alliance with ten small kings. They will rule with the eighth king for one hour before turning on him. This eighth king is a kingdom which scriptures refer to as the second beast. The beast is a kingdom and its king is the false Christ. Revelation 17: 7: And the angel said unto me, "Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. "9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. "12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast." The beast is said to have the number of a man, 666. This number first appeared within the Babylonian kingdom on a medallion they made, rendering numbers 1-36 totaling 666 when added together. The number also appeared at the button of the medallion. The medallion represented their form of worship. You will recognize this false Christ by whom he worships.
