Of Noah's three sons, it was Ham who ventured south towards Egypt and populated the rest of Africa. Shem, forefather of the middle peoples (Semitic), the oldest of the three, covered the land east of Israel and is considered the father of the Far East, making him the ancestor of the people of India and China. Japeth, forefather of the northern peoples (Japhetic Eurasia), moved to the northern regions.
