3 kinds of death mmentioned in the scriptures;
1. Physical death which is also referred to as sleep
2. Spiritual death which is separation from God or the life of God.
3. Second death which is eternal death or the final and ultimate separation from God.
The unbeliever is spiritually dead and if he doesn't repent would suffer eternal death in hell and in the lake of fire.
The Christian is not described as spiritually dead.
God is not so much concerned about
Physical death as He is about spiritual death.
For a sobering account of the second death (the Lake of Fire) see Thomas Welch's testimony by Googling "Oregon's Amazing Miracle'.
This is a testimony of what Welch saw after he died and was brought back to life after he fell from a 55 foot high trestle beside a dam while working. He found himself on the shore of a massive lake of fire amongst damned souls. Jesus brought him back to life after godly people interceded for him when his lifeless body was found.
VERY VERY sobering!
