When Moses asked GOD when he gets to EGYPT and tells the Hebrew people who sent him, what was he to say? GOD said, "I AM". Jesus used the divine name and applied it to himself. In effect calling himself GOD.

Jesus said in reply to a question: 'I tell you the truth,' Jesus answered, 'before Abraham was born, I am!' He was telling those who were in his presence that he was the messiah and had been so in the mind of God from before the foundation of the world. so "before Abraham was born, I am the Messiah" Notice John 8:28-29:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [the Messiah - God's anointed one], and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. John 8: 56: 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Indeed, Abraham knew the good new message of God and understood that his "seed" the anointed one of God, the Messiah would inherit all that God had promised to him. This whole conversation was Jesus answer to his detractors about who he was.... who he was at that very moment in time! In that moment in time he was the anointed one of God, the son of God, the Messiah whom they rejected and as a result Paul says in Romans 11 that in doing so they were cut off from the olive tree and as a result could no longer lay claim to being a part of the Israel of God, and in not listening to Jesus as THAT PROPHET like unto Moses they would be cut off: Deut:18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. So any Jew who reject Jesus from being their Messiah will be destroyed or cut off from among the people. Notice: Romans 11:19-22: You will say, then, ‘The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in’; right! by unbelief they were broken off, and you hast stood by faith; be not high-minded, but be fearing; for if God the natural branches did not spare — lest perhaps He also shall not spare you. Lo, then, goodness and severity of God — upon those indeed who fell, severity; and upon thee, goodness, if thou may remain in the goodness, otherwise, you also shalt be cut off. So the natural branches of the Olive Tree Israel have been broken off because in unbelief they have rejected their Messiah Jesus, and as those who accept Jesus as their Messiah - the anointed one of God have been grafted into the Israel of God and as such are a part of the household of God and the commonwealth of God as Paul says in Ephessians and as such will inherit the promises made to Abraham that we shall inherit the earth with the lord Messiah Jesus when he comes back and we with him at the resurrection of the saints!

"I AM" in original Hebrew "eyeh aser ehyeh" is one of the names the Creator God in Genesis is identified. Other names are EL SHADDAI, YHVH ELOHIM, ADONAI, LOGOS etc. See the Concordance for reference. This is to let everybody know that Jesus is that same Creator God, consistent with "same yesterday, today and forever"(Heb. 13:8

This is an excellent deep understanding of "who God really is" type of question that obviously has more than a few "understanding/meanings" answers! Let me input what I have pondered, prayed about in my pursuit of 'growing and seeking His eternal truth and knowledge on a daily basis'. For me and from what I interpret and understand resulting from bible and scripture study over the years, His words of "I AM"--(English translation), are words that God chose to reveal His presence in context of 'time'--an element He created solely for the benefit of man! With GOD using the translated words "I AM", is His chosen phrase to explain to our limited concept of His 'unlimited, boundless, unending'; "from everlasting-to-everlasting" existence that embodies His intended meaning, is still so difficult to truly comprehend fully! Since He reveals Himself in the form of many names in many various places in the Bible, to me, the most amazingly intriguing is the name(words), " I AM " Simply, in my "humanness", I have been and will continue to reach for a "revelation of His Truth and His understanding" of His name and its true meaning for " I AM "! For His Glory, Honor and Praise, in Jesus' name, Amen and AMEN! --Andy--

I am Jay Dennis Saunders. In my research of the meaning of my names, I found that I am Joyful Worshipper Son of Thunder; that is the root meaning of my three names. Jesus declared who he is throughout scripture in many ways so that we might fully understand that he was a form of God clothed in flesh. The only begotten son of God begotten by and through the Holy Spirit as the seed sown in the womb of a chosen virgin name Mary. Jesus was fully God and fully man. A hybrid of man and God the creator, created to teach mankind and save mankind from itself, a Trojan horse set into the domain of the enemy to set mankind free from a fate or destiny of hell and damnation, a man born into the earth with a human mother and a God the Creator as aHeavenly Father. Thus Jesus was revealed to us as a miracle and a miracle worker who could heal as well as preform signs, miracles and wonders. What other person that ever walked on the earth that was testified of and witnessed of by hundred was able to do such things then and even now for those that manifest faith? He is still revealing himself to us by signs, miracles and wonders that only he can preform when faith is manifested in Jesus' name through mankind. I Am that I Am is always a name of Jesus because God our Heavenly Father and Jesus our great savior and redeemer and the Holy Spirit are one in one purpose in doing good, motivated by love abounding. When the cloud appeared to the Israelites it represented god's PRESENCE. We now have god's presence within us. Lk 17:17-21.He has come in the clouds as the father did. God has a NEW NAME> Is 62:2; Rev 3:12; Rev 22:4. Only ONE GOD and he does not share his glory with another.
