Why did God need the jewels with the name of the 12 sons of Israel on the shoulder pieces of the ephod to remind him of the Israelites?

Can God really ever forget anyone?

Exodus 39:7

ESV - 7 And he set them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod to be stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The entire ephod was meant to be worn over the heart because God wanted the priests to remember that all of their priestly service needed to reflect the very heart of God. While God could never forget His children, we as people are prone to be forgetful when it comes to thinking of others. In addition, we have a tendency to perform our duties out of obligation rather than love for God and love for others.

God wanted to make certain that as the priests performed their religious duties, they were thinking of all of the tribes of Israel and God's desire to be near to them, as well as God's heart to want them to be acceptable to Him as a result of the diligence and faithfulness of the priests.

God cant forget anything, unless He says he did, its so the israelites can remember their covenant with God through Israel. And to remind them from where they came.

He set them on the shoulder pieces so that THEY (the Israelites) would remember.
