We can trust that biblical prophecy will indeed predict the future for the following reasons:

1. All of the prophecies made by God about the coming of the Messiah (his Son, Jesus Christ) came true. In Luke 24:44, after his resurrection, Jesus said to his disciples, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

2. All the promises made by God to his chosen people, the nation of Israel, came true. In Luke 1:35-37 we read "The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”

And the apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians 1:20 said " For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

3. We know it by the nature and character of God revealed to us in the bible: For example:

God is infinite (Psalm 90:2; 2 Peter 3:8)
He is limitless in his being, character and attributes

God is eternal (Revelation 22:13)
He exists for all time and at every moment of time

God is all-knowing (Isaiah 46:10-11; Hebrews 4:13))
He knows and understands everything that exists for all time

God is all-powerful (Jeremiah 32:17; Isaiah 44:24-28)
He has unlimited power and is able to do anything he wants

In summary, the words of scripture give us great assurance that "Everything God has purposed and planned will come to pass (become reality)".

All prophecy recorded in the bible will be fulfilled, in the manner and the time that God has ordained. Our challenge as Christians is to understand and interpret these prophecies correctly. For that, we need the insight and discernment that can only come from the Holy Spirit, who is our resident teacher. Jesus said his Spirit would lead us into all truth.

But God also said "Seek me and you will find me, when you seek me with all your heart". We must be diligent seekers and not give up. We must also be careful not to accept certain interpretations that make us feel good or that we want to believe, rather we must be willing to accept the truth. Then we will be ready and prepared for everything that will come. Then we will be the ten virgins whose lamps were full of oil and lit, watching and waiting patiently for Jesus to come.
