Do any people you know have one, two, or more natures, by what you know of them? Francis Schaeffer taught about Faith choices. We are sitting by the fireside in one of two armchairs called Unbelief, or Trust. Many times, moment by moment, we get up from one and sit in the other. Another example is Gravity. Aeroplanes do not defy gravity, they simply use a higher law to overcome gravity. We as believers are daily being presented with choices to keep our feet in the 'real' world of capitalism and democracy, or to fly in the kingdom where our commerce is giving with love as subjects to the King. Until we realised that Jesus was the Son of God, our spirit was dead in corruption. Now that we have accepted Christ into our hearts, we are in love with Him and actually want to practice this gift of Grace so freely given to us. That is the newly quickened spirit within us. Our new spirit has the Holy Spirit, God Himself living within us. He wants this eternal spiritual life to start transforming our old nature, our habits, desires, relationships, memories, society, environment, everything flowing out of this new life within us. But to do that, we need to crucify the flesh, die daily to our old desires and habits. The Flesh, i.e. our soul and body, the conscious and unconscious self can do many things.... be good, give charitably, have faith, do good works. But there is one thing our Flesh cannot do. It cannot die to self and put Christ first. That is something we have to do ourselves, rigorously, daily, consciously put self to death so that the light of the presence of Christ within us can shine.
