Despite the popular notions that "no one has seen God", this is the opposite of truth - for man has seen God!

Jesus IS God! What a mind-blowing teaching if we consider the implications this statement pose - that God lived with us and shared food with us.

Jesus, while passing the district of Caesarea of Philippi, asked his disciples, "Who do people say I am?" (Matthew 16:13) Far more important that Jesus's teaching, He wants to make sure people knew who he is - He is God in-the-flesh. God came down to Earth and shown man his face - Christ is the "image of the invisible God". (Colossians 1:15) 

Some people, mostly atheists, demand proof of God. Emmanuel, or God with us, is a response to people who are laid back on their spirituality, claiming, "I have not seen God, why would I believe he exist?" God is hammering the point, "I am here. You have seen me. You have spoken to me. I ate supper with you. Stop your unbelief."

I think there are several ways of interpreting this question:
1) Does God really exist? Has anyone seen him?
2) What does God look like? Has anyone seen his appearance?
3) What is God like? Has anyone seen or talked to him? What is his nature, character and personality like? What is God's will and purpose for human beings?

As mentioned in a previous answer, God exists as a Spirit - not as a material being. As human beings we are only able to see things that have a material substance to them. However God is able to take on a physical form to show us what he looks like, as he did with Moses. Angels are also spiritual beings and there are many examples in Scripture where they appeared in a human-like form to various people in order to deliver God's messages. 

God also gave some prophets dreams & visions of heaven that show us what God is like such as Isaiah 6, Ezekiel 1 & 10 and the book of Revelation. 

God also chose to reveal himself through words. The bible is called the inspired Word of God. It contains the words that the Holy Spirit inspired various men and women to put in writing. Nearly every book of the bible contains words that were actually spoken by God to various people. The people actually heard these words (audibly or in their minds by dreams & visions) and then wrote them down. The words of the bible describe the relationship that God has with his chosen people, the nation of Israel in the Old Testament and his chosen people, the church of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.

But the most amazing way in which God has chosen to reveal himself is through his Son, Jesus Christ. The bible teaches there is one God but he has chosen to reveal himself to human beings as 3 distinct persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Trinity). Jesus is in very nature God but he chose to become incarnate, taking on the nature and flesh of a human being. He remained being God but also became a man.

Jesus himself said that I and the father are one. If you have seen me then you have seen my father in heaven (John 14:6-11). The writer of Hebrews says "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being" (Hebrews 1:3). The 1st chapter of Hebrews then describes what Jesus is like as God. The 2nd chapter then describes what Jesus is like as a man. The rest of the book of Hebrews has a lot more to say about what Jesus is like and God's plan of salvation.

The life of Jesus as a man is captured in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the first four books of the New testament. In these books we learn a great deal about the nature, character, personality and will of God. 

So in answer to the question, Has anyone seen God, because God is a spirit, I think the evidence is very convincing from the Words of God recorded in the bible and what we know from the bible about the life of Jesus Christ as a man, that we have seen God and know a lot about him.

When the 70 elders went up the mountain (Ex 24:1-11) it is said they saw God, with the implication of a human form, since verse 10 mentions God's feet. 

Who did Moses and the elders (and the Israelite nobility) really see? According to Stephen (Acts 7:30 - 38) it was an angel of the LORD, both at the burning bush, and on Mount Sinai where the law was given. So it is quite possible that when it is said that Moses saw God "face to face" it is referring to the angel of the LORD which accompanied the Israelites throughout their 40 years of wandering.

Seeing God in his fullness and his aspects such as the Most High, the Almighty, the Everlasting, etc., is not possible for human beings since it would be like entering a blazing fire and returning unharmed.

God the Father has never revealed himself on earth to human beings, other than Christ, in perhaps the same way that Yahweh, the LORD, never revealed his name before the time of Moses (Ex 6:3). Similarly, the Holy Spirit doesn't reveal himself, or speak for himself, but only for the other two members of the Holy Trinity. So, two of the three members of the Trinity still remain unseen by men.

Nope. John 1:18 says, "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."

"God is invisible (1 Timothy 1:17 --"To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."; Heb. 11:27 --"By faith he [Moses] left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he [Moses] endured as seeing him who is invisible."). Man can see God revealed in nature (Psalm 19:1-6; Romans 1:20 -- "For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.") and in His mighty works in history; but he cannot see God Himself. Jesus Christ reveals God to us, for He is 'the image of the invisible God' (Col. 1:15) and 'the express image of his person'--(Heb. 1:3). 

The word translated 'declared' gives us our English word exegesis, which means 'to explain, to unfold, to lead the way.' Jesus Christ explains God to us and interprets Him for us. We simply cannot understand God apart from knowing His Son, Jesus Christ." —Wiersbe
