Yes God still speaks to us today but he does so through His word, the Bible. However it is very common in many Christian circles today to believe that God also speaks to us through impressions, events, and thoughts that come into our minds. Many Christians get ideas that come into their heads and think it is God speaking to them. But that is not what the Bible tells us to expect. Guidance does not come from impressions inside your mind, but from solid principles in the word of God. Some people think God allows events to occur in our lives to direct us. But events are not a reliable guide. We are expected to use spiritual principles to guide us through events and not use events to guide us to principles. I know it is very common for some people to think that God speaks to us to tell specifically the day to day movements of our lives. They think that God tells you "where to move, what job to take, what relationships you should walk away from, who you should marry, who to go witness to, what church to attend, what ministry you should serve, what college to go to, what scripture he wants to use to speak to you that day." But this is a complete misunderstanding. And it leaves people open to wrong ideas. Nowhere does the Bible tell us that the thoughts that come to our minds should be interpreted as coming form God. We all get thoughts and impressions but that is from us, not from God. Sometimes we have feelings and impressions that we have done something wrong or should have done something better. But that is our conscience speaking to us, not God. God helps us to discern right from wrong through our consciences (1Timothy 1:5; 1 Peter 3:16). The Bible is the only reliable place where you will find God speaking to us. Don't tempted to put your thoughts, feelings, inclinations and leadings on the same level. They are not trustworthy Proverbs 3:5. Regards Phil

I agree with With Michael but want to add that after Jesus assended to Heaven, God sent the third person of the Trinity to live in us and to teach us all things. When the Holy Spirit speaks to you, not only does He reveal things but also shows you the actions that He wants you to take. I have felt the presents of the Holy Spirit and it will convict you when you do the wrong thing against God's Word or when doing things against God's will. If you are in Christ, the Holy Spirit will guide you through Life.

People who say God doesn't speak audibly anymore have put God in a box. We have to let Him out of the box. I heard God's voice tell me my daughter would be healed because of my faith. She battled seizures for 3 1/2 years, 99.9% chance she would never grow out of them. My daughter would always carry a Bible and sleep with one out of all the books in our house. She never knew that I heard that. The next few days she got better; she became the little girl I never got to see. She is now seizure-free and riding a bike and her speech is coming back to normal. I was looking for answers for a healthier life. I was not sleeping at all. Searched the Bible and searched looking to find the key, like eating healthy, etc.... One day I looked in the mirror and I heard a voice say, "The only thing you will find in that book is me." From that day on I've searched out who is "me." God is alive and he is a spirit. This Thanksgiving my father-in-law, who is an unbeliever, came to me and asked, "Did you guys move? I had the realist dream and you guys were moving." So in January I heard God say, "Florida" and "pastor." That was all I heard so I went home and told my wife. I'm like, "Why me? I'm not anyone." But in beginning of March we got a call asking us to come down and start a youth ministry at a dying church in Florida. So right now we are trying to get stuff together and sell our house that we always dreamed of having, and we're waiting on God to provide the financial miracle that we need to move. Life is all about faith. I see and know a different God than people talk about. I see a God of intense mercy, grace, love. I battled so much sin in my life; I'm not perfect, we all mess up. But we come to God and we seek him. Oh man, is he so good! Thank you all and God bless. I have so many stories I can tell and testify to God's goodness and his power.

I believe that, as a Christian, I've been given scripture, as a light and a lamp. My opinion, or my experience does not carry any weight, with regard to determining what is to be held as true and right. As I seek to rightly answer the above question, I know that scripture will be the plumb line by which we determine whether my answer is acceptable. So, looking to the word of God, as my guide, I cannot find scripture which would say that God does not speak to us, apart from the bible. I've heard the scriptures which some offer as proof that God no longer communicates with us, apart from the canon of scripture. Although I understand the danger in believing falsehood, and I am willing to be corrected where I am wrong, I do not find the scriptures which they offer, sufficient to prove what it is that they assert. If I limit my answer to the above question to "sola scriptura", I don't believe that there's any evidence showing that He does not speak to us any longer (apart from the bible). Please correct me where I'm wrong. Please be willing to be corrected where you may be. Let's come to a common understanding of the plainly written text. Blessings.

Yes God still speaks to us today. His word tells He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. As for evidence, let me tell you a quick story. I was praying one day and I heard a voice (audible or not I don't know) say "Go see your Aunt Ruth (who was in the hospital). I said "But God, you know Aunt Ruth and I don't really get along". He repeated "Go see your Aunt Ruth". I said "okay God, but how can I know it is you telling me to go see Aunt Ruth and not my imagination". He said "Not by Might, not by power, but by my Will saith the Lord" I said "okay, but God isn't there something wrong about that verse?" He said, "Look it up and you will know it is Me telling you to go see Aunt Ruth!" Of course, the verse actually says "Not by Might, not by power but by my Spirit saith the Lord!" Why was this important and how did I then KNOW it was God telling me go see my Aunt Ruth. Because for a couple of weeks, I had been praying for God to fill me with His Spirit. There is much more to this story but no room here to tell it. I went to see my Aunt Ruth. She died a couple days later. My mother (her sister who my aunt lived with) died the same day. My sister (from California) later told me she had been praying for Aunt Ruth and God told her that she could not reach Aunt Ruth but He could!" Lots of details left out but God definitely still speaks to us today! Oh, I and Aunt Ruth both lived in Oklahoma.
