As a stay-at-home wife, I didn't have anything to retire from. But when my beloved husband went on to heaven earlier this year, I realized that while I no longer was in "covenant" with him, my covenant with the LORD had just expanded beyond anything I had ever imagined.

While my heart was still reeling from the loss of my life long companion, I prayed that the LORD would show me what to do. Over & over I found the words of Ps 119 truly a blessing. 
"Your Word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You", "I will meditate on Your precepts & contemplate Your ways", "Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes & I shall keep it to the end."

When in sleeplessness I would wake, I would remember "At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You because of Your righteous judgements."

When I felt that I was without direction, I would remember "Forever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven" & "How sweet are Your Words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth." 

Many days when bewilderment seemed to be my best friend, I would consider this: "Your Word is a lamp to my feet & a light to my path."

Even as I was still standing in the spirit, I began to take one step at a time, trusting Him to lead me with His own hand. (Ps 139:10)
Now I am working to reorganize my husband's workshop from wood working to a work place for stained glass. 
I hope to offer free lessons to anyone who wants to learn. 

I see it as an opportunity to share my faith, to encourage by example & to comfort others as they may be going through a time of struggle.

There is no such thing as "retirement" for Christians. We just allow the LORD to redirect our steps so that our lives continue to be a reflection of Him, His love & His grace in whatever ways the talents He gave each of us leads.

Those who taught, should continue to teach; those who were given other talents, should use those talents to encourage & enable others; those who were given a servants heart, should continue to serve. There are so many opportunities & places where Christians can continue to serve the LORD. There is no reason to spend all their remaining days on a golf course or in front of the telly!

And it has been my prayer, as I no longer have an anchor to a place or person, if the LORD now wanted me to travel to some far away place to serve Him, I am willing & able to go.

Well, General George Washington, the first president of the United States ever said: "Old soldier never die, just fade away", was he a Christian, whoever he was, this statement was a reflection of what he believed.

Retirement age is a blessing, (Proverbs 16:31), preparations for a promotion of a perishable life to an eternal life, "The length of our days is seventy years-or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away." (Psalm 90:10); The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will be brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end." (Isaiah 60:19-20).

Christians are the believers and followers of Jesus's teaching, the hearers and doers of the words of God (Mathew 7:24-27).

So, no need for a Christian to be worry about a retirement age, it gives us a more time and opportunity to get closer and closer relationship with the LORD our God.

My opinion is that there is no retirement for a Christian to perform the will of God. In the present day scenario the life expectancy of human beings is extended, and thanks to the improvement of medical technology, which is helping people to have good health. Whatever it be, unless it is the will of God, we will not continue to be in this world for even one second from now on. We should endeavor to accomplish His Will in our life. There are millions and millions of souls which are dying and passing into the grave even without hearing the name of Jesus, the resurrected saviour, who is sitting at the right hand of the Father and doing intercession for the sins of the mankind.

Abraham was called by God at the age of 75. Moses was commissioned at the age of 80. So also Joshua and Caleb. Of course even in the New testament period, I am not sure of the age of Peter and Paul when they were called, but I am definitely sure they were called after accomplishing some thing in their life. Even Jesus has said, "When you are young, you will go as per your wish, but when you grow old you will be carried by someone to preach."

One has to be confident of his call and wait on the direction of the Lord to do the Lord's service. We should be prepared to serve Him with our heart, soul, mind and body till we breath our last. We should never try to differentiate between services, but offer ourself as a sacrifice to the Lord.
