There is perfectly nothing wrong with a woman working at home or being a home keeper and a caregiver for the children. However, Titus 2:3-4 [which is often cited by those who hold it that women should never take professional jobs or careers] does address a particular situation affecting the Cretan church and should not be taken as a command of a universal application for the church. In this passage, Paul instructs that young women should be busy at home. Some have taken this apostolic instruction to imply that Christian women should be home keepers and should not take up professional careers! Nothing could be further from the truth! Whereas housekeeping for women is in order, this interpretation is far-fetched and is utterly misleading if applied as a universal command because the context suggests that Paul was addressing specific circumstances touching on Gentile women in the Island of Crete whose culture was similar to the African culture. They were meant to manage the home and had no other cultural means of livelihood was open to women of this time. The passage context was these women should avoid idle chatting and gossip and instead should be diligent with their domestic responsibilities. It is note even remotely discernible that Paul was permitting women to drop from jobs or careers as some have wrongly construed. I know of one Christian fellowship group which misapplied this passage and pulled their wives from the thriving careers and, turning them into housekeepers! The result was devastating for some as these women wasted their skills for which they had been trained. In one such family, the husband lost his job and the family was financially challenged since both were now out of employment.

No two cases are alike. When our children were all in school back in the 60's and 70's, (when the schools were not so bad), my wife worked for several doctors. I was working long hours on the road Monday through Friday and many times did not get home till very late. My energetic wife not only took care of all our needs, she stripped the wall paper off of every room in the house, and painted all of the walls. She then refinished all the oak woodwork in the house. It use to make me tired just to watch her. She was not only the most beautiful woman, she was also busy taking care of business. She has always been an inspiration to me. She is so easy to love. So what ever you do, do it all to the glory of God. Her work outside the home helped to be able to buy our first house. It was also an insurance policy, that if something happened to me, she had something she was equipped to do to make a living.

From all that I have read in the Bible - God’s Word to us all - YES, ALL WOMEN are to be homemakers and nurturers, NOT employees. MEN are instructed to physically protect and financially provide for women and children. It’s not that complicated. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! It doesn’t make sense that it was just a command for that time period. If that were the case, then you would have to use that logic with like 90% of the Bible - basically saying none of it is commanded for us today. Now, some things in the Old Testament no longer apply to us - but most of it is a pattern for us to follow and apply to our life (whether embracing it or putting it far from us). And everything in the New Testament stands. If you want specific scripture verses, let me know. I will do some research and write them down, then copy them (by typing them) here.
