Malachi 1:2-3
2 "I have loved you,” says the Lord. But you say, “How have you loved us?” “Is not Esau Jacob's brother?” declares the Lord. “Yet dI have loved Jacob 3 but Esau I have hated. I have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.”

I think it's very important to note that the examples given show what God hates, not whom. It's lost in Christianity all too much that God doesn't hate people and calls us to follow in that, but hates sin.

What occurred to me from the original response is that God does not hate us because he cannot see our sin. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, as His children we were forgiven and we stand with a pure white robe before our Maker!

The reason Jesus had to died for the sins of the whole world, was so that anyone could be saved who accepted Him as their savior. We are all sinners before God because we are not perfect. There is not one perfect person on earth and Jesus was the only one that is.

But when we accepted His free gift of eternal life Ephesians 2:8-9 He gave us His righteousness so that us imperfect people could become the righteousness of God by faith alone. Romans 4:5.

First John 5:13 is our assurance of salvation and we know we are going to heaven when we die. Praise God, our sins are gone.
