@S. Michael Houdmann, I agree almost entirely with you. However, I wish to add a little bit more. I heard from a Watchtower that the best way to reach them, (starting with prayer), is to put your verses to them. then ask them to "help" you understand them. For example, you could say, "Genesis 1:26 says 'Let US make man in our image', could God have been talking to angels? Are angels in the image of God? Then you might also want to refer to Isaiah 9:6, and say, could the Messiah be God, according to this verse?" Then insist on answers from the bible only, in the proper context. Another thing...... get to understand their doctrine inside out, that way you are better positioned to know where they have been trapped and tricked. For example, they believe that most promises in the bible are between Jesus and the 144,000. They don't eat the Lord's Supper, believing that to be for the 144,000 only. So, you may want to refer to 1 Corintians 11:20-22, then 1 Corintians 11:30 which clearly proves that these were not among the 144,000. Please know that they are trained to 'leave you' once they discover that they are not making headway, the reason being that the leaders do not want them to end up learning the truth for themselves. Those guys are in voluntary prison. But they do not realize it. May our God have mercy on them, and on us all. Bless.
I have an Uncle that has always been an Elder with the Jehovah’s Witnesses since I was a young boy. He fellowshipped out of the headquarters in Brooklyn, NY. He gave me every book that was written by them and I read them all. He nor my parents ever knew that I had an encounter with Christ when I was five. I also had a King James Bible that I read cover to cover many many times so I never became one of the “flock”. I’ve witnessed and have ministered to people of many faiths and religions and the bottom line is that it’s not our job to change anyone. One of the biggest mistakes that many believers make is that they feel that they need to challenge another person’s beliefs and debate with them, making them feel as if they’re wrong and that the only opinion that matters is their own. Such arguments prove to be futile and plays out more like a swordfight with neither party gaining an edge. The best way to approach anyone of any faith is not to contend with them or challenge them at all. Hear them out and allow them to speak. When it’s your turn to speak just ask them to extend the same courtesy to you as you showed them. Be prepared to defend your position but don’t argue. Your job is to plant a seed. Someone else will water it but it’s God that makes it grow. My youngest sister was a JW. She wanted to argue that Jesus was just a man so I asked her if she would hand me her New World Translation. I looked up Isaiah 9:6. Isaiah 9:6; For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. I asked her who that was speaking about and she said Jesus. I asked her to explain how the verse says that he’s the mighty God and Everlasting Father? She couldn’t explain it. To make a long story short she became a Christian not long after that. This is not a contest or a competition. Don’t witness under your own understanding but rather be led of the Spirit. It’s the Spirit and the word that brings conviction, rather, testify of what great things we have seen and heard of the Lord. Your level of enthusiasm can either encourage someone or make them head for the hills. Remember this is for the glory of God. You may not win over everyone you witness to but you can leave them with something that will leave them thinking. Then pray for them and allow God to be the one to soften the hard heart and bring about a change in people.
I believe the best way to witness to them is for you to know the Word of God as best you can. Do not witness to JWs or anyone else that may challenge you unless you are confident in the foundation of Christ... I would also follow the Apostle John's advice... 2Jo 1:9 NIV - Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 2Jo 1:10 NIV - If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 2Jo 1:11 NIV - Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.
How do we preach/teach/talk to any non-believer? S. Michael hit on a key ingredient; Our testimony. That alone should remove any "I'm better than you" thought from the conversation. Then, take a lesson from the apostle Paul; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:23-25 NASB For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1 Corinthians 1:21 KJV Preach/teach Christ Crucified. And remember who EXACTLY you are in this; a planter, or a waterer. You are not, and never can be - a "saver". Plant, or water. And pray for them to the One Who Saves FOR their Salvation. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:7-11 KJV
I am a Christian and a firm believer in the Holy Trinity. But some references in the Holy Bible need explanation:- As is seen in John 4:24 Lord Jesus has said " God is spirit; that is to say God the Father is Holy Spirit God the Son is Holy Spirit and the Third Person in the Holy Trinity is Holy Spirit. So the proper name Holy Spirit given to to the Third Person in the Holy Trinity is inappropriate as the appellation is applicable also to the Father as well as the Son..So we have to find out from the original text of the Holy Bible the original name of the Third Person of the Holy Trinity rather than calling Him: Holy Spirit which is a common name.My Church calls Him: Rooho Qadeeso. The second word in the name is amenable to translation as Holy while the word Rooho is not amenable to translations. Thus the name of the Third Person in the Holy Trinity is Holy Rooho or better Rooho Qadeeso. The name given to Simon by our Lord is Cephas..KEPHA. This word was translated into a Greek word which means "A Stone" and the name eventually became Peter.[ John 1:42] The original title of our Lord Jesus is Messiah which is translated as the Christ [John 1:41] In English Peter could have been called "Stone" and Christ called "the Annointed " As these name-translations were not accepted by the English language, the name-translations in Greek should have been avoided and the original names KEPHA and MESSIAH could have been retained. Similarly the name-translation of Rooho as Spirit is to be reconsidered. In Genesis 1:2 mention is made to Holy Rooho as the Spirit of God. The words " of God " is used by Jehovah's Witnesses to argue their case against true believers The other references such as Gen 41:38, Ex 31:2-3 Num 24:2 etc seem to be helpful to them ADDITIONAL WORDS: The Jehovah's Witnesses put up to us a riddle based on the words of our Lord and God reported in John 11:11 ''I assure you that John the Baptist is greater than any man who has ever lived but he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than John'' They ask ''Then what is the position of John the Baptist in the Heavenly Kingdom.?''
