"What would Jesus do?" is a popular religious expression on bracelets, necklaces, and T-shirts with the initials WWJD. The idea behind WWJD is that to know how to do the right thing, we simply ask ...

WWJD...this is so irrelevant in so many ways, that we need to be careful we don't fall into traps where we copy Christ's steps rather than His character. As we look to Christ for our guidence, we are reminded that we do have the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2.16), and can run according to His will if we are submissive to Him in all things. This means self-sacrifice as Paul stated, in mortifying the flesh daily. It's not I that live, but Christ in me. The whole WWJD enterprise is not biblical as in order to copy Christ's decisions and choices, we would have to live according to the Mosaic Law, and be subject to the customs and rules of the day. Of course, Christ broke many of those as He saw fit, but we cannot copy Him out of form, but rather copy His attitudes and motives in obeying His commands. Paul said to imitate him as he imitates Christ. Imitate how? By asking in prayer for God to conform you to His image. This is the work that God is doing in us and He won't be done until it's completed. Until we reflect Christ's image perfectly. This is imitating Christ, in behaviors, motives and thought-processes and striving to be like Him through humility and submission.
It is simple... but not always easy Wear the cloak of Christ, live your life with the beautiful heart God gave us; not the hate and impulsiveness the world gives us. If you have to understand Christ to understand the statement. God Bless us all
It's better to look at what did Jesus do. Imitating the things that he did do is the best place to start. You can learn much about his character and what he is like and what we should be like. Of course you must ask for his guidance while doing this and be willing to do what ever it is you need to do. If your not willing ask God to make you willing. If anyone wants to know his will God will show them.
Don't you think that the WWJD merchandise is actually something extremely positive in one's life? I ask myself often, WWJD? And then I go to Scripture to find out what Jesus did. It certainly doesn't apply in every situation, but it makes many wonder about this loving, saving Jesus. And isn't that productive and possibly life changing? It can only do good. I see nothing wrong with the sentiment and it certainly is not anti Scripture.
Personally, I have always believed Jesus' life would be a good pattern to follow. We are to follow in Jesus’ steps (1 Peter 2:21 --"For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps."), and many passages of Scripture advise us to look to Christ as our example (e.g., John 13:15; Romans 15:7 -- "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."; 1 Corinthians 11:1 -- "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ."; Ephesians 5:25 -- "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."...).
Yes, “What did Jesus do?” would be a better question. All we need to do is look at Scripture. Just a simple example: Making choices on what to eat. Would Jesus eat bacon and ham (pork variety)? According to the Word he kept the whole law perfectly. That would include Deuteronomy 14:8 8: “And you may not eat the pig. It has split hooves but does not chew the cud, so it is ceremonially unclean for you. You may not eat the meat of these animals or even touch their carcasses.” “What did Paul do?” might be another question. Did Paul keep the law? Consider this verse, Act 21:24: “Take them and be purified with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads, and that all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning you are nothing, but that you yourself also walk orderly and keep the law.”
