Before we can learn to trust that God is in control of all of life's circumstances, we have to answer four questions: Is God really in control? How much control does He have? If He is not in comple...

TRUSTING GOD

Way back in 1953, when walking across a Christian college campus with one of my Bible professors, he put his arm around my shoulders, knowing I had some challenges facing me, and said, “Ben, if you will seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, He will take care of you.” Of course, he was referring to Jesus’ teaching from the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 6:33.

For decades, I have believed that promise and have been blessed by it. I enjoy seeking God’s kingdom in Scripture and living a righteous life-style AS BEST I CAN to please Him through Jesus. It is important to make Jesus Lord, that is, to do what He tells us to do in Scripture, Luke 6:46.

God has not failed me.

How do I know I trust God? There are times when I wish things would work a certain way that I desire. But, when they do not work according to my thoughts, desires, wishes, I understand my TRUST IS IN GOD when I am at PEACE and SATISFIED that God has a better plan for me and it will be manifest when He is ready. I experience no anxiety, regret or disappointment. He knows and He will handle it. Of course, I must do my part as a responsible disciple.

Yes, I am human. There are times when I “wonder,” but that is when it is time get back to seeking His kingdom and His righteousness in Scripture.

GOD IS FAITHFUL

For years I came across Christians who God seemed to talk to all the time (eg "God told me this", "God told me that" etc). God never spoke to me like that and as a new Christian felt a bit of a failure. Over 30 plus years as a Christian the only words I heard from God are "Trust me". I have also come to realize that God has given us intelligence to sort things out. For example when playing golf God doesn't tell me how to stop slicing the ball-He has given me the mind to work it out. Our decisions must be in line with God's word and we must commit everything in our lives to Him at all times. If we make the wrong decision He can reverse it or teach us an important, though sometime painful, lesson. We aren't going to get it right every time but remember our life is in His mighty hands. Just remember "Man proposes but God in His infinite wisdom and love for us disposes". Praise His mighty name.

My opinion is that, through my lifetime of many years, as I look back at my ups and downs, I see the hand of God. I see how he carried me through, how he gave me peace, how he protected me from harm, and how he walked me through the fires.

By having "FAITH" in him! By "believing" in him!

When we read the great faith chapter, Heb 11. All the people mentioned
trusted God because of their faith...They didn't doubt that he was in control...

For example, In order for anyone to believe they are saved, they have to believe in Jesus, John 3:16, John 6:28,29.

And what is it that we have to "believe"? That because of his sacrifice we
"believe" and "trust" that we are saved! And the Lord guarantees that, Eph 1:14, 2 Cor 5:5. if you believe that, then you must believe that he is in control...anyone that doubts their salvation, surely doubts that God's in control...

If God is not in control then who is? Are you? And if you are in control does that mean you could lose your salvation because of something you did while in "control" of yourself? When asked who can be saved, Jesus said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" Matt 19:26

Many think that God is not in control because of the things they suffer.
But God tells us that in this life we will suffer, John 16:33, 1 Peter 4:12-19, Jam 1:24, 2 Tim 3:12, 2 Cor 4:8-10.
But many don't understand that suffering is a "good" thing for a Christian, Rom 5:3-5, Rom 8:18, Jam 1:2-4, 1 Pet 5:10, etc, etc...

We are to rejoice when we suffer Jam 1:2-4, because "if" God is in control then that suffering will make us more like Jesus!

Anyone that thinks that the reason God is in control is because they haven't suffered because God has "protected" them from suffering, is not maturing and learning to be like Jesus. As a matter of fact God himself disciplines us when we need it because he loves us, Heb 12:5-11

And of course we should trust that God is in control because he has given us the indwelling Holy Spirit that guides us in our sanctification process, Phil 2:13. Without which we would be lost and without hope.

Most importantly I believe we should trust that God is in control simply because he tells us so...Prov 19:21, Rom 8:28, Jer 29:11, Josh 1:9, Isa 45:6-7, Isa 55:8-11, Isa 45:7,Matt 19:26, Ps 115:3, etc., etc...

I especially like, "In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind., Job 12:10 ESV

and, Psa 115:3 NIV - Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.

So we need to get to know him and trust that he is in control by meditating on his Word at all times!

Praise God!

If God is not in control then He could not be the creator.

We do not have many gods, each in charge for different things like in Hinduism for instance e.g. the god creator, the god destroyer and the god preserver. Our God is the one and only creator of, not just the world but also the entire universe.

The Genesis was written thousands of years before any science came into being and discovered the universe and yet see how accurately it explained God's creation of the light and darkness. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was harmless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering the waters (Genesis 1:1). Our God is in control of every aspect of the universe every second of the day even though humans may be out of control. We are in a deep mess politically, socially, economically, morally and ethically but don't be concerned because we are moving towards the end, as all engineers know, we are reaching the 'entropy' state. Instead, look forward to our spiritual lives with Jesus who rescued us all from evil.
