The cross was the instrument that God allowed to be used as the altar for Jesus Christ being crucified thereon, shedding His sinless blood, in His redemptive sacrifice[1 Peter 1:18-19] and [Hebrews 9:22]. Also being hung on a tree or stake or cross was to the Hebrews considered as a curse because of God's Word [Galatians 3:13], Paul quoting [Deuteronomy 21:23]. Jesus's Redemptive work did three things [Matthew 20:28] 1- Came to our aid, 2-Consummed our debt, 3-Covered our needs, all as our Kinsman Redeemer, by shedding His blood and dying in our place. He was crucified on a cross that we might be forgiven and justified.

The Roman colonial government law to excecute death sentence for a rebellion against the Roman Government was to be crucified (John 19:12-16). Jesus died on the cross for redeeming our sin, a punishment for a rebellious man against God's commands (Isaiah 53:3-12), so the meaning of the cross is: to remind a rebellious man against God's command to repent! (Mathew 3:1-3; 10:38; 16:24; Galatians 5:22-25).and become a believer and follower of Jesus (John 3:16-18).

To me when I think of the cross, I remember Jesus' commitment of love. I particularly think of Matthew 10:38,39: "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and He who loses his life for My sake will find it." No matter our daily work load, if someone needs something that we can do or give, the chores get put aside. We serve Him by giving to whoever is in need, anything we can...time, a hearing heart, a hug, money, sympathy, support...the list can go on and on... nothing is more urgent than doing for another of God's children, or creatures!

When Jesus went to the cross we did go with Him, and He died in our place. He took the punishment we deserve. He is the one that paid the price for our sin debt, and we did nothing for it. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, First John 1:8, and we all die because of sin in the flesh, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus lived a perfectly sinless life, went to the cross as the lamb of God, and paid the sin debt of everyone in the world, and then rose from the dead to prove He was the Son of God. The gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. The second we believe that gospel we are sealed by the Holy Sprit of promise by faith alone apart from any works. Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also AFTER ye believed, ye were sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise. John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that WHOSOEVER, ANYBODY, believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. It cost Jesus torture and death to pay our sin debt. And we can only accept it as a free gift. We can not do anything to pay for what He already accomplished for us. We had no way to pay for our sins. One sin and we have to go to hell forever and ever and ever, because God is a just God, and being Just, he has to punish sin. But God was satisfied that Jesus sacrifice paid for the sins of the whole world. First John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only, but for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD. When Jesus went to the cross, we went with Him, When he died, we died. When He was raised from the dead, we were raised from the dead. Colossians 3:1-4 says we are dead, and our life is hidden with Christ in God.
