In Genesis 9, the NASB and KJV uses the word 'bow' instead of 'rainbow' - from the Hebrew 'qesheth', a bow is a weapon, and I would suggest it it God's weapon of choice for restarting the world anew. I set my bow in the clouds - the image of a warrior hanging his weapon on a wall is a sign of peace time. When the bow is taken down from the wall, we expect destruction. In Revelation 6, we can see this king on a white horse out to conquer, whom I suggest is Christ. And guess what his weapon of choice is, that which he has taken down from where it was hanged - his bow.

A rainbow sometimes is used as a symbol in the Bible. When it is, it symbolized at least 3 different things. 1. It was a sign of God's covenant with Noah (Gen. 9:12-17) 2. It symbolized the glory of God's throne (Ezek. 1:28; Rev. 4:3) 3. It is seen as a halo of a Mighty Angel, possibly Christ (Rev. 10:1)
