In my opinion, the wording is not saying that God cannot be studied or sought for, but that He is an infinite Being who can never be fully grasped or understood by human comprehension.

What does it mean that God or that God's greatness is "unsearchable"? Psalm 145:3 ESV "Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised; And his greatness is unsearchable." Jehovah's "greatness is unsearchable." Regardless of how large he is bodily, his greatness rests in the kind of God he is. Yes, the things he has created are too wonderful for us to understand, and we ourselves are "wonderfully made." (Psalm 139:14; Job 9:10; 37:5) Romans 11:33-36 ESV: "33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! 34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?36For of him, and through him, and unto him, are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen." Although humanity’s knowledge of many things has increased dramatically since Paul wrote those words some 2,000 years ago, that statement still holds. No matter how much we know, it should humble us to realise that there is no limit to what we can learn about Jehovah, his works, and his ways. The realisation is that no matter how much we learn about Jehovah and the universe, there is still much more to discover." Imagine gazing into a limitless, bottomless chasm, a realm so deep, so vast that we could never even grasp its immensity, let alone trace it out or map it in detail. Psalm 92:5 ESV: "How great are thy works, O Jehovah! Thy thoughts are deep." Yet God, through His Word, the Bible, we learn many wonderful things about God. His greatness is unsearchable - but God through His Holy Spirit helps all to know and understand more about God each day.

God’s greatness being “unfathomable” means it cannot be fully searched out, measured, or comprehended by the human mind. Scripture says, “His greatness is unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3), using a word that points to limits we simply cannot cross. John Wesley captured this well: only a being far greater than a worm could understand a man, and no mere human can fully understand God. In short, God is truly knowable because he reveals himself, but never exhaustively knowable. His greatness goes beyond our highest thoughts, inviting humility, awe, worship, and trust rather than mastery or explanation. "[See] Psalm 145:3 [where David says,] His greatness is unsearchable Emphasizes that God—along with all of His worthy qualities—is simply too much for people to comprehend." --Faithlife Study Bible / Psalm145:3 Compare Romans 11:33 where Paul says, "Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how fathomless his ways!" This is especially clear in Colossians 2:3, which teaches that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. God’s greatness remains unsearchable, yet it is truly and savingly revealed in Jesus Christ.
