Why does Zimri execute the friends, as well as the family of Baasha (1 Kings 16:11)?

In my opinion, Zimri's actions were motivated by a desire to eliminate any possible threat to his rule, causing him to execute not only Baasha's family, but anyone else who might possibly rise up against him motivated by sympathy for Baasha; a desire to avenge his loss of the throne; or the loss of previous "perks" that they might have possessed under Baasha's reign.
