In Jeremiah 10:3-16, the prophet mocks wooden and metal idols as powerless, lifeless objects. Yet in verse 10 he contrasts them with the Lord, ‘the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King.’ Why would people believe that such man-made figures had power, and how does Jeremiah 10:10 show the difference between idols and the true God?
