Pontus Pilate once asked Jesus, "What is truth?" Jhn 18:38 This one question sums up the essence of the spiritual war that has transpired throughout history, from Eve's encounter with Satan (Gen 3:1) until now. It's a war whose front lines cross each and every human heart. If you are alive, you are in this war.

Theologian R.C. Sproul once defined an answer to this question as this: "Truth is reality as perceived by God." He went on to talk how he believed this to be the only possible objective definition of Truth; of things that are true for all people across all time. This view was implied by Jesus when he said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Jhn 14:6 As the eternal creator and source of all things, he is The Truth because everything the divine trinity says and does is True by definition. God creates reality.

But we, as fallen human beings who have been separated from God since the fall in Eden, can only grasp bits and pieces of the full extent of the Truth and reality that God knows (1 Cor 13:12), and so we tend to fill in the missing pieces with what we call today "my truth", and can even be persuaded into believing outright lies; sometime by being deceived (Gen 3:13), or worse by knowingly choosing a lie over truth (Jhn 3:19). We can become casualties of this spiritual war on Truth.

Now Jesus, who was God in essence, spoke this, "Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed is your name..." Mat 6:9, or "If you had known me, you would have known my Father also." Jhn 14:7 In fact, Jesus made hundreds of references to God the Father or "He", and not one of mother god or a holy "she". In the revealed Word of God, there is no doubt that the most high God perceives Himself as "He" and "Father". This is the Truth.

As to whether you or someone else referring to God as "mother" or "she" being blasphemy, that depends on whether it was spoken out of ignorance of the Truth, or in defiance of the Truth. In either case it is a lie, but speaking it with a heart of rebellion against God, in essence calling God Himself a liar, then this is blasphemy. It would be choosing to live "my truth" over The Truth, darkness over light.

The concept of a male or female God is put in perspective when you consider how hierarchy was established in Jesus' time and thousands of years before Him. Men ruled in all cases. It was a male dominated society, as it mostly is today.

Jesus had an earthly mother so it seemed to reason that God was His "Father." We, as did Jesus, need to refer to God as Father. There are three separate entities but one God; God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. 

Jesus' teaching would not have the same effect if He had said that God was His mother. People were told that God was male because of their cultural understanding. They would never have understood that God, just was. God told Moses that He was "I Am," not the Father of His earthly children or the Father of anyone. He just WAS. That concept was and still is very hard to grasp.

God is neither mother nor father. God just IS. In heaven there is no male or female; Jew or Gentile. In our finite minds, we understand things on a very primitive level; not an infinite level. We need to understand God in a finite way and understanding God as a male figure is how we do it. To get hung up, as it were, on God's gender muddies the water. Let one refer to God anyway they like as long as they are referring to the God in Jesus Christ, the God in the Holy Spirit and the God of Abraham and Isaac.
