Though the prince isn't named, we have some information narrowing the search. This prince comes after the Anointed One is "cut off", widely understood as Jesus' crucifixion. But 26 says it's the PEOPLE of a coming prince who destroy the city (Jerusalem) and the sanctuary (the temple). This happened in 70 a.d. when Titus brought his armies there and fulfilled what Jesus said about not leaving one stone upon another.

However, Titus never did what this prince will do: confirm a covenant with many for 7 years. Neither did Jesus, since the New Covenant wasn't signed in his blood till he died (Mark 14:24), so his public ministry couldn't have been when it started. So we await another similar to Titus to attack Jerusalem. Scripture further described this person as declaring himself God (2 Thes. 2:4) and desecrating the temple. Jesus further described this ruler or prince as being referenced by Daniel (Mat. 24:15). This event was mostly fulfilled by Antiochus Epiphanes several hundred years before Christ, yet Jesus said he would commit this act in the future. So the coming prince will not only resemble Titus but also Antiochus, who did in fact sacrifice a pig on the altar and erect a statue of Zeus with his face on it, desecrating the temple.

So we know this prince hasn't come yet to completely fulfill the prophecy, and he will both destroy Jerusalem and desecrate the temple, where he will declare himself God. This same person will enforce the 7-year treaty, and it's that event which begins the Tribulation.
