The fall of man refers to the first instance recorded in the Bible (Genesis 3) of humans committing sin by disobeying God's command to them (in Genesis 2:16-17) not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

This action caused all subsequent humans born through the normal reproductive process to have this same inborn tendency toward disoebdience (that is, sinfulness) from the moment of conception (Psalm 51:5).

Although God had intended humans to live forever when he created them, the presence of sin made such immortality no longer possible, and introduced death to God's creation. In addition, animals suffered death as well, as initially shown by God's slaying of animals to make coats from their skins that humans could wear to cover up their nudity (Genesis 3:21).
