Why did God break the heads of sea monsters (Psalm 74:13-14)?
13 It was you who split open the sea by your power;
you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.
14 It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan
and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.

In my opinion, the reference or imagery here is to the manner (as described in Exodus 14) in which God destroyed the "monster" posed by the Egyptian pursuers at the time of Israel's exodus from Egypt by drowning the Egyptians in the waters of the sea after the Israelites had safely crossed over on dry land, leaving the Egyptians' corpses to be devoured by marine and terrestrial wildlife.
