First let us examine the meaning of the word "soul". According to Dictionary.com a soul is "the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part". In other words the mind, will, and emotions of evey individual. 

A "Soul Tie" refers to one who has become sexually oriented with another person, whether they are married or not. It referrs to a tying of one's mind, will and emotions with each other. Nowhere in the bible does it specifically say "Soul Tie", but neither does it say "Methamphetamine" when referring to substanc abuse. We need to use common sense and let the Spirit of God guide us when analyzing or discerning certain topics, this being one of them. 

Here is some scripture background: in the beginning God created man, then woman from man. Genesis 2:22 "And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.'

Jesus later states the same thing while talking about divorce. Mathew 19:4--And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” It would not make sense to say just because you say you're married, then two become one flesh. No, it is a sexual initiation.

Finally let us take it out of marriage into fornication. The Apostle Paul spoke of this in Corinthians, where every kind of sexual act was permissible and practiced with no restraints and as idol worship. 1 Corinthians 6:15 "Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body withher? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 

17But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit withHim.18Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit whois in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

Common sense tells us when reading this that there is an exchange of one's being when entering into a sexual relationship, whether it is with your wife or with a friend, stranger, etc... This is all scripture, I ask you pray about it and let the Holy Spirit guide you in understanding.

1 Sam. 18:1 (KJV) says, "the soul of Jonathan was "knit" with the soul of David, & Jonathan loved him as his own soul."

Certainly, between David & Jonathan there was a "soul tie" for but their relationship was a good & godly one.

That word "knit" is the same Hebrew word used in Gen. 44:30 in describing the relationship between Benjamin & his father Israel as "his life is bound up in the lad's life." Judah said that if Benjamin was taken from his father, his father would die. (vs.31)

Being "knit" together is being bound; tied in league together speaks of an interlocking fellowship, a meeting of the minds, united together. 

In Ephesians 4:16 we read, "from whom the whole body fitly joined together & "compacted" by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." (KJV) 
The word there "compacted" is from the same Greek word that is used in Col. 2:2, "That their hearts might be comforted, being "knit" together in love."

While the world, through music & movies, has perverted the idea of hearts & minds being knit together in godly love & devotion, GOD ordained the first "soul tie" when He said to Adam in Gen. 2:24, "Therefore shall a man "leave" his father & his mother, & shall "cleave" unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh." To "cleave" means to stick to, keep close and be joined together.

I might add here that many men (women, too) have gotten those two words confused. By not leaving their father & mother, they are unable to "cleave" to each other. 

To be one flesh requires more than just sexual contact, it requires that interlocking fellowship, that meeting of the minds. 

Two people, husbands & wives or just friends can't walk together unless they are traveling in the same direction at the same pace.

Having two souls knit together as a husband & a wife, can last a lifetime. Whereas a physical connection, one that is carnal, of the flesh, without the knitting of the souls, can only last for a season.

And to have a soul knitted to GOD should be the determination of every Christian.

For it is He Who said, in Deut. 6:5, "you shall love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, & with all your strength." And in Deut. 11:1, "Therefore you shall love the LORD your GOD, & keep His charge, His statutes, His judgements & His commandments always." 

And again in Mark 12:30, He quoted from Deut. 6, saying, "You shall love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind & with all your strength. This is the first commandment."
