In the protestant religion, we are justified because Jesus paid for our sins. It is all about His work on the cross. It is all about His divine Grace. I cannot save myself. I need to recognize my sinfully nature and repent and declare I need Him.

In the Catholic religion, Jesus is God, but I have to work and earn my justification. It is a merit system.
