A good place to start might be to buy a Bible with study resources and to sign up for daily readings. UCB is a good resource with daily readings you can sign up for free. Pray before you start, asking the Holy Spirit to lead you is of utmost importance. God bless you on your journey.

Carly: let me start by saying welcome to the family of God! In answer to your question, I would like to share the following verse of Scripture. John 16:13: "However, when He, the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." NKJV

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead, and He is the Ambassador of Jesus Christ, and has been sent to speak on His behalf! Hence, this verse reveals the role of the Holy Spirit in the lives of every born again believer in God's Son.

May I encourage you to develop a personal and intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit, and allow Him to lead you into the truth of God's Word! I pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten you and that you will receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Taken from Ephesians 1:17 & 18.

May you be preserved unto the day of Jesus Christ, and kept from the wolves in sheep's clothing; from the craftiness of Satan, and his deception. I pray that you will be rooted and grounded in the love of God, and in the truth of His Word. May you grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen! 2 Peter 3:18.

There are a couple of things you can do. One is listen to good teachers on the radio or online. The problem is that there are also bad teachers. While I don't always agree with any of them, I can recommend a few. John McArthur is a strong Bible teacher. J. Vernon McGee and the "Through the Bible" program is an excellent study of the entire Bible (his program is a 5-year study going through the entire Bible, available on the radio or at ttb.org). David Jeremiah is a good teacher, as is Alistair Begg. All of these are available in many areas on the radio or through the Internet.

If you are wanting to study the Bible on your own (not just depending on others teachings), there are several good Bible study methods. One book I can recommend is "Learning and Living Gods Word: How to Study the Bible" by Daniel J. Estes.

Just remember to pray and ask God for understanding - it is only through His spirit you will be truly able to understand His word.

Great question, Carly! I didn't know anything about the Bible either for the first 16 years of my life! When I was in your shoes, I started with a Bible study course that Billy Graham offered us new converts. I think it was through The Navigators, which also included Bible memory verses. That helped me.

What helped my wife and I immensely was reading through the Bible in one year together, she in her One-Year-Bible, and I in mine. Then we'd discuss it sometimes. It was called The One Year Bible? (Tyndale House Publishers). Personally, I would recommend the NLT (New Living Translation).

Get into a good church where the Bible is proclaimed and Christ is lifted up. This helped me. My church had a Bible Memorization Program called BMA at the time, Bible Memory Association. I did this, and that helped. It is now called Scripture Memory Fellowship or VerseLocker.com. You can sign up online, which I did, and still participate in this.

Ebible.com also has a good read through the Bible one year plan. The one I signed up for had good devotional content.
