The modern Ouija board was created in the late 1800s as interest in spiritualism grew. A Ouija board is simply a game board that has the alphabet, numerals, and 'yes' and 'no' printed on its face. ...

I used to do this in our small family of four, but I am not proud of it. This happened before I was saved. But now I am saved, asked God to forgive me, and now I appreciate this new wisdom:

There has always been a fascination to communicate with the “spirit world.” Some feel that once a person has died, their “spirit” supernaturally has access to knowledge or information that wouldn’t be available to those of us who are alive. Others enjoy the novelty and are just curious, “what would it be like to communicate with a supernatural entity?” Thus, many pull out Ouija boards, visit psychics or mediums in hopes of finding answers to their future. It’s hard to blame them since the world seems to be falling apart at the seams and many feel uncertain about what’s coming next.

But, Isaiah 46:9-10, says, “Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure,’”

This shows that God alone can "see" into the future.

Many today are searching for that same power in their life; a loving being they trust that can tell them, no matter how crazy your present situation is, things will be OK in the future. Others are so disappointed and frustrated with life, they are yearning for supernatural intervention to help guide and navigate the mess of their past and present circumstances.

But the spirits of the dead won’t have the answers. “And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?” (Isaiah 8:19, NKJV).

There is a Being, who loves you, and says “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness, I have drawn you.” (Jeremiah 31:3). He can see your future and He has the power to make a way to untangle every difficulty you are facing or hold together an unraveling situation. He says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Don’t try and contact anyone else – try and give God a call. “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” (Jeremiah 33:3, NKJV)

What are Ouija boards? Should a Christian play with Ouija boards?

A Ouija board is a device for spiritualism that consists of a board with letters, numbers, "yes," "no," and "goodbye," and a planchette (a small, heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic with a pointer).

It is often marketed as a game but is intended for contacting the spirits of the dead or other supernatural entities.

Some Christians who have used Ouija boards have reported negative spiritual and emotional experiences, which they interpret as signs of malevolent spiritual influence.

Many years ago, I got involved with a group of people who played with Ouija boards, and when I shared a session with them, I can confirm the above statement, "negative spiritual and emotional experiences"

The Bible contains explicit prohibitions against seeking wisdom or communication from sources other than God. Passages such as Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Leviticus 19:31, and Isaiah 8:19-20 warn against consulting mediums, spiritists, or inquiring of the dead, classifying such actions as detestable or an abomination to the Lord.

As a way to probe the unknown, the Ouija board is a form of divination. The Bible, at 1 Samuel 15:23, places divination parallel with the use of “uncanny power.”

Many who use the Ouija board claim to acquire "psychic” abilities. This truly uncanny, mysterious power enables them to know things about other persons and events without using standard means of communication.

“Some researchers warn,” observes Russell Chandler, “that the game can lure the susceptible into the weird world of spirit communication—even demonic possession.” Harold Sherman, president of the ESP Research Associates Foundation in Little Rock, Arkansas, observes: "The majority who have become involved with possessive and other spirit entities came by this experience through the Ouija board."

Conclusion:

The connection of the Ouija board with divination, spiritism and “uncanny power," all of which God disapproves, along with the frightening experiences that many have had, makes it plain that experimenting with the Ouija board could have only a detrimental effect on you.—Deut. 18:10-12. Rotherham Bible: "There shall not be found in thy midst one who causeth his son or his daughter to pass through fire or who useth divination, hidden arts or enchantments, or who muttereth incantations; 11 or who bindeth with spells, or who asketh of a familiar spirit, or an oracle, or who seeketh unto the dead. 12 For an abomination unto Yahweh is everyone who doeth these things,—and on account of these abominations is Yahweh thy God dispossessing them from before thee."

Jeremiah 33:3, Rotherham Bible, gives us some excellent advice: "Call unto me that I may answer thee,—and tell thee things great and inaccessible which thou hast not known."
