Why does Jesus say to pray in secret?

6 When you pray enter the closet, & when you have shut the door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; & thy Father which was in secret shall reward thee openly.

In my opinion, Jesus was addressing those who pray more to others who might be listening than to God. He was saying that those prayers would not be answered, but if you pray where only God can hear you, then you are demonstrating your faith. And God not only hears those prayers but rewards your faith and answers your prayers.
