If I am interpreting the question correctly, by referring to the apostles' "doctrine", the cited verse is not speaking of a fixed statement of belief, but is referring to the whole of their teaching. To me, that teaching would have been an elaboration on what Peter had preached at Pentecost earlier in the same chapter of Acts, seeking to bring those who heard it to recognition of Christ as the promised Messiah, and to faith in Him as the Savior sent to make possible the forgiveness of human sin, and the attainment of eternal life.

Good question, Ricki!

I think it just means their teaching. The apostles' teaching formed the basis of the instruction given to the first Christians. The apostles' teaching is brought out in these passages:

Acts 2:42; Titus 1:9 See also Matthew 28:19-20, etc.

The disciples “doctrine” or “teaching” was simply a recounting of the stories of their 3 year discipleship training experiences, now reinterpreted by the Holy Spirit to reveal the full extent of who Jesus was and the mission he came to fulfill.

They understood that Jesus was the Saviour sent by God to set believers free from sin, death and all evil forces. They understood that they were living a brand new life following Jesus example to build the kingdom of God. They understood their mission to call everyone to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

The four gospel accounts and the book of Acts give us the oral history that was their personal testimony and the basis for all their teaching and doctrine.
