How will we be "enriched in every way"? (2 Corinthians 9:11)

2 Corinthians 9:11 in the NIV says, "You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God."

2 Corinthians 9:6 - 15

ESV - 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Hosea 10:12: "Sow for yourselves righteousness
Reap in mercy,
Break up your fallow ground
For it is time to seek the Lord,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you."

For me, this means, “Spread God's word and try to increase the kingdom of God.” Be busy for Christ and your love for Him will be honored.

I think the key to understanding this phrase “you will be enriched in every way” is provided for us in Verse 8: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

When we cultivate a generous heart to fulfill all the good works that God has placed before us, we will receive all the resources that we need from God and much more to give away.

These resources are not just material things or wealth. This includes sharing the gospel; caring for the sick and needy; looking after widows, orphans and immigrants, words of encouragement and support; doing the things that Jesus did in his ministry to people.

Our riches in return may not be material either. How valuable is it to be filled with all the fruit of the Spirit to share those blessings with others.

I would say that Paul is concentrating here not on a form or amount by which a person is enriched, nor is he preaching a so-called "prosperity gospel" -- where a person receives assets (in whatever form) for personal use as a reward for contributions -- but is speaking of the "before-the-fact" purpose for which any such "disposable assets" (whatever form they may take) exist or are granted by God -- that of being generously shared with those who are comparatively lacking in them.

Colossians 3:1-4 We are to lay up treasure in heaven by what we do.

Colossians 3:5-6 The wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience. Believers. Not unbelievers. Saved people living in immorality.

First Corinthians 5:5. A born again believer, Ephesians 1:13-14, who was sleeping with his fathers wife. He was about to lose his life and the rewards he could have had in heaven. First Corinthians 3:15.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. First John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Salvation is a free gift from God by faith alone in Jesus finished work on the cross alone apart from any works. Romans 4:5. Romans 3:26-28. But after we have trusted Jesus as the only way to be saved, our good works will be rewarded in heaven. And if we are living in sin the Lord does chasten His children. Not to condemn us, but to bring us back into fellowship with Himself. John 3:18.
